Saying Goodbye to an Old Friend

Yesterday, we did something we don't do very often but was not all of that extraordinary.

However, Landry's reaction to this occurence was indeed extraordinary.

We said goodbye to our trusty family Yukon and got a new vehicle.

All of this occured while Landry was at school, and without her knowledge.

Last night Jeff and I were sitting in the new car trying to figure out knobs and gadgets, when Landry climbed into the back and asked a question about something random--I can't even remember what it was.

But, from her facial expression, I could tell something was bothering her.

I asked her what the matter was, and the waterfall started. Bawling, sobbing, wailing.....as if her heart had been broken.

She told us that she loved the old car and missed the old car.

For the next 30 minutes, we basically had a memorial service for the old car.

We told our favorite "memory" from the Yukon, and Landry asked for a picture to be printed of the Yukon that she could put in her room.

I told her we had never named the Yukon and that maybe she should name it. She decided to call it Friend.

So, goodbye Friend. You will be missed.

Sweet Landry! She spent so much time in the "Friend;" I'm sure it was sad for her to say goodbye. All of us spend so much time in our cars that they really do become our best friend; or, on those rare occasions when we are stuck on an overpass in Dallas for a couple of hours, "our not so good friend." Congrats on your new purchase and happy travels!

I get very attached to cars as well. The times that we have left our old one at a dealership, I felt like I was letting our car down. Like we were sending it to a nursing home!

Oh, so cute that she loved the Yukon! I understand, I love my car even though it is 7 years old and I should probably get a new one.

You need to give us the new exciting details about the new car too

I'm sending Landry my condolences. I felt the same way when I had to trade in my Tahoe. It broke my heart.

So, where is the picture of the new car? What did you get? Inquiring minds want to know.
