Literally mere minutes after I posted the below entry, Landry came up to me and asked, "Can I watch Animal Planet, please?" And as she said please, she emphasized the word with air quotes.
So, am I to assume that she may or may not have been trying to use good manners?

Blog Plug
My friend Ryan had this blog linked from his blog the other day, and I've gotten the biggest kick out of it. Some of the posts are making me laugh out loud.
I commented on Ryan's blog that I should start an apostrophe abuse blog, because a misused apostrophe is one of my biggest grammar pet peeves, or pet peeve's, if you will.
WELL....apparently such blog already exists. I will be the first to admit that I'm not an English language grammar expert. I generally make up my own punctuation. I use "....." or "--" entirely too much when I write. But the " 's " shouldn't be so difficult to master! Seriously, anyone with a sixth grade education should be able to appropriately apostroph-ize. I have a friend who sent me an email the other day asking that I keep ear's open for any opportunities. Ugh....
Anyway, "keep" you're eye's peeled for "these" blog's"? ;)

Landry's First Day of the First Grade
Today was the much anticipated first day of the first grade!
I know this looks like she's telling me to wait a second, but she's showing me she's going to first grade.

Almost there....

The kids are only supposed to take "small" backpacks to school. Oopsie....
Almost there....

Eyes Wide Shut
My friend, Beth, asked on her blog yesterday how I get Korley to look at the camera to take good pictures.
Pffffffffffffffft!
Korley is going through a phase where whenever she sees me with my camera, she smiles really big and closes her eyes tightly. Any good picture I get of her is pure coincidence. For every one picture I have of her looking "normal", I have at least 10 like this....

Random
*Today is August 17 and when I went to go pick up dinner at 5:30 this evening it was 73 degrees. August 17!! 73 degrees!! In Texas!! Miracle?
*Even though I went school supply shopping two weeks before school starts, I still can't find assorted color construction paper or manilla paper in this entire town. Will I have to resort to Ebay?
*I hope this isn't a stupid question, but does anyone know why Australia's Olympic colors are green and yellow--when their national flag looks like this?
*Isn't men's swimming so much more enjoyable to watch since they've done away with speedos?
*Why do I get so interested in watching the most random sports during Olympic time? K1, for example....why on earth am I interested in K1?
Speaking of which--I am cutting this terribly written, random post short. Getting back to Olympic coverage!!

I'm looking forward to the day.....
when I don't have to wait around in the house for a service person. Since we have moved in, it seems like every day we've waited on the cable man, phone/internet man, tv repair man, water-softener-making man, the cable man again, the phone man again, the install a lock on Korley's bathroom door man, and most recently the plumber who has had to come THREE times in 24 hours.
Our hot water heater stopped working on Sunday. I called our home warranty people and, of course, had to wait until Monday before I got a call back from the plumber. And, of course, they were booked all day Monday so it would be Tuesday before they could come out. The guy came out and got the hot water heater working Tuesday morning, but a couple of hours later it stopped working. Then, he came back Tuesday evening--got it working again and a couple of hours later it stopped working. So, I called them back this morning and they told me it would be tomorrow before someone could come out. I threw a mini-fit (I mean really, I've had freezing cold showers since Sunday--thus, not thorough showers!) and she said that the senior plumber would be available at lunch time to come out Perfect! Send the senior plumber! I prefer the top performer anyway.
Well, I'm not sure how great of a plumber he is, but he is definitely senior. This guy was no less than 100 years old--and no more than 100 pounds. But, I think he fixed the issue (knock on wood!) and I'm going to get in a shower as soon as the heater heats up the water!

Update to the previous post......
I almost hate to say this because I don't want to jinx anything, but Korley has gone to bed without any fuss the past three nights. In fact, last night she told me she was ready to go night-night. And, the past two nights she has slept completely through the night. It's been glorious!
Landry has had a good past few days. She has met some girls in our neighborhood that she has enjoyed playing with. Also, we were invited to visit a church this past Sunday and they were starting their VBS that night. So, I got her signed up and she attended their VBS, which she really enjoyed. Yesterday, Jeff's parents drove in from Dallas and took her back with them today so she can spend a few days with them and her cousins before she starts school. Fortunately, she won't have to go back to the daycare for the rest of the summer. I don't think it is a bad place at all, but it just wasn't a good fit for her and too different from what she had come from.
I've gotten out and met some neighbors, too. Also, I met up with an old high school friend and her two boys (who are Korley's age) at the pool last weekend. It was good to see a familiar face! And, she plays tennis at the same tennis club we go to, so hopefully I can start playing tennis with her soon. We also visited a church that we enjoyed and the people were really nice, so things are slowly getting better!

Adjusting
We're into our third week now here in Lubbock. While every day gets a little easier, we're definitely still going through an adjustment.
The biggest adjustment for Korley has been moving into a big girl bed. Korley was a terrible sleeper as an infant and at about age one she started sleeping like a champ. Now, she's in a new room and a new bed and has reverted back to the sleeping pattern she had as an infant--except now she's mobile and can actually get out of bed, which makes it way worse than her bad sleeping as an infant. She goes to sleep somewhat easily if Jeff or I are in there with her, but she wakes up a few hours later and WILL NOT go back to sleep unless someone stays in the room with her. It's exhausting. Come to think of it, this might qualify as the biggest adjustment for Jeff and me, too! So, if any of you out there have any advice, please pass it on!!
For Landry, the transition has been a little more emotional. I think the biggest challenge for her has trying to make new friends. Landry had so many friends at school, daycare, our neighborhood, and church in McKinney. Hardly a day went by that she wasn't playing with someone. Here, it's been a little harder for her to make friends. The daycare she is going to has all of the school-aged kids together, so there are fewer kids her exact age. The first few days she was there, she would ask some girls to play and they would say "no, but you can watch". Little girls can be so mean. I think it's gotten better, but I'm really ready for school to start so she can be in a class with kids her exact age and make friends.
Jeff has adjusted to Lubbock just fine. He loves living here. His biggest adjustment has been learning his new job. He has been overwhelmed with learning new material, but he is liking his job which makes the adjustment bearable.
The hardest adjustment for me is just not knowing anyone. This is the first time in my life I have lived somewhere where I don't really know anyone. I'm used to going to dinner or something at least once a week with friends, or seeing my family on the weekends--now my social life has come to a screeching halt. When I was enrolling the girls in their daycare, the form asked for us to name an emergency contact and it stopped me dead in my tracks. It suddenly dawned on me that I didn't have anyone to put. I had to tell the director that I would revise that section once we met some people! How pathetic! ;)
On the bright side, the weather here has been a nice change. While the Dallas area has been dealing with 100+ degree heat, we headed to the pool this afternoon and my car thermometer said the outside temp was 86 degrees. In fact, I sat in a pool chair for a while watching the girls swim and I never once felt uncomfortable.
Stay tuned....I promise to post about more "bright sides". ;)
P.S. To the people who commented on my last post, I promise I didn't erase your comments. They strangely disappeared--I have no idea why! I think it's b/c I talked bad about Blogger before!!

We traveled near and we traveled far.....
This past weekend we traveled back to the Metroplex. Although we had only been in Lubbock two weeks, I was ready to head back home. It's not that I don't like Lubbock, but it was nice to go home and see familiar faces! It's weird being in a town where you don't know anyone and therefore don't run into anyone you know!
Thursday night we spent the night in Abilene with Lulu. We had a good/bad dinner at Fuji's--the good part was the food, the bad part was dining with our two-year-old terror! Then, we went to Sonic for some treats. By the way, not just any old Sonic. Did you know that the Sonic on Judge Ely in little old Abilene was featured on Food Network? It is #6 on the WORLD'S most unique fast food restaurants. (Side note, not that I don't love this particular Sonic, but really?...I think the producers of this show were in give-up mode once they got to #6) At any rate, they have a great playground that Landry and Korley loved playing on.

Why is it that 80% of our pictures end up looking like this?

Friday, we traveled on to Arlington for the remainder of the weekend. Saturday, we took Korley and Landry to The Wiggles live show. Korley L-O-V-E-S The Wiggles. I knew she would enjoy the show, and she did, but I wasn't expecting Landry to have as much fun as she did. Landry really understood that they were there--in person--and live and she thought that was really exciting. She sang and danced to every song. Of course, she has been watching The Wiggles on and off since she was 1, so I imagine she was a little starstruck! Korley enjoyed it, too, but she didn't appreciate that it was live as much as Landry did.
This was before the show. They had a sticker page for the kids to decorate while waiting for the show to start....genius!

As a side note--Sunday was Gigi's birthday! She had a Wiggly Party!

Here they come!!!!

And, of course, Dorothy, Wags, Henry, and Captain Feathersword were there, too.
