It's not September yet and I already have a dove on the grill

That's right, folks. Dove season officially starts tomorrow, but I have already made my first kill. The other night I was driving home and noticed I was about to run over a bird. It started to fly and I looked in my rearview mirror and didn't see any feathers or a mangled bird body, so I assumed it flew away. The next morning, Jeff was going to take my car to go run errands and after seeing my car, he came back in and announced that I was a murderer. I had indeed hit the dove.

The dove was stuck in the grill of my car. Wings totally spread. It almost looked fake.

I have officially joined my sister's "bird killing club"......actually, we prefer to think that the birds were suicidal. http://lindsayhallerbackgirl.blogspot.com/2005/06/feed-birds.html

nothing to talk about.......

I just really don't have much new to talk about (sorry Lulu). Other than trying not to melt in this 700 degree heat, our routine has pretty much stayed the same lately.

Tomorrow is our annual Fantasy Football Draft. This year the draft will be taking place at our house. While I am looking forward to seeing all of our friends, I am not looking forward to the 12 straight hours of NFL talk.

I promise to have more to post on Monday!!

Fun Dip

Ahhh, the joys of being three-years-old and discovering something "wonderful." At what age does Fun Dip stop tasting good and start tasting like just Kool-Aid powder?

Were you raised in a barn/and something embarrassing!

The below are some things that people do in public that really gross me out.

Fingernail clipping- There is a time and a place for everything. Work is not the place to clip your fingernails.....unless you work in a nail salon. Please, clip your fingernails in private. I work with this man who clips his fingernails EVERYDAY! There is an area shaped like a half moon around his chair that looks like a bride and groom just walked through and got rice thrown. Yuk! Recently, this man was out on disability for a few months and when his temp came, she had to CLEAN OUT HIS KEYBOARD! Grody!

Nose blowing-Two things about this. Do NOT do this at the dinner (lunch/breakfast) table. There is nothing worse than sitting in a restaurant eating egg drop soup and someone is blowing their nose. Go to the bathroom. Also, if you HAVE to blow your nose in public (but not at the table), do NOT look at it. Why do people do that? Are you expecting to not see snot? Fold your tissue and throw it away.

"Readjusting"- Men, you're not being subtle. We see you. Either go to the bathroom, wear different undies, or make SURE you are in private.

Finger-licking- If you are serving food to someone, do NOT lick your fingers. This is one of my biggest pet peeves. At my work, we meet for cake for people's birthdays. There is a lady who is always the first to volunteer cutting cake, but she licks her fingers in between every piece of cake. Yuk!

Last night, Jeff, Landry, and I went to eat at McAllister's. I was in my work out clothes......gym shorts, t-shirt, etc. We were in line to order and Landry was standing behind me and holding on to my shorts and she was swaying. She lost her balance and fell....HOLDING MY SHORTS. My shorts were down below my knees and my underwear was half way down my rear! So embarrassing!! There were about 5 or 6 people behind me that say a full moon last night.......well, at least a half moon anyway!!

new stuff

Haven't blogged in a few days, so thought I would add an entry today. Last weekend my dad took our whole family to San Antonio (PopPop, Gigi, Jeff, Landry, and Brady--Lindsay was already there). We had so much fun. Friday, we went to La Margarita. Saturday, Mom, Jeff, Lindsay, Landry, and I walked around downtown and went through some stores. Jeff, Landry, and I got one of those "old-timey" looking pictures made. It was funny. I'll post it later-haven't scanned it in the computer yet. Sunday, we went to church with Lulu and later went to eat and then out for cake for Gigi's birthday. (We did a lot of eating on this trip!!)

This coming weekend is one of my favorite weekends of the year-PONTOON WEEKEND!! This is the weekend we go with my college PiPhi friends to Lake Travis. We rent a pontoon boat and just cruise, float, eat, and laugh all day. It's so relaxing and so much fun. There is always a story or two that gets told or something that happens that till this day makes me laugh when I think about it. The two that come to mind are Erin's story from last year about watching "The Simple Life" with her dad, and the other is when the guy's a couple of years back reinacted a scene from "Silence of the Lambs."--No, I won't go into details about it for all of blogosphere to read, but if you want to know, ask me when you see me.

Have a great rest of the day! I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

Must HATE "Must Love Dogs"

Used to.....I would see almost every new movie that came out. Never really liked scary movies, war movies, serious dramas, or anything by Tim Burton or Quentin Tarrantino (too weird) so I would skip these. This pretty much leaves action, comedies, romantic movies, and romantic comedies. I would see them all.

Now......it is very rare that I go see movies. Before last Thursday night, the last two movies I saw in the last 8 months were "Madagascar" and "Be Cool" (terrible). Thursday, I was excited to get to go see a movie; I chose "Must Love Dogs". Waste of $$. But, in case you want to see it, I will keep it out of my below examples.

I have decided that EVERY ROMANTIC COMEDY IS THE SAME!!! I'm done with them. They are too predictable and I don't want to spend $8.50 to predict every scene.

They all have one or more of the following:

1) A BFF- All romantic comedies have a "best friend" character that has NOTHING else to live for than to help find his/her friend's soul mate. The BFF is ALWAYS uglier than the main character, but funnier. They get all of the good jokes and lines. Think of any romantic comedy out there......there is a BFF. (note: the BFF can also be a family member)

Jerry Maguire- Bonnie Hunt (sister of Renee Zellwegger's character)
......speaking of Bonnie Hunt....Only You (sister of Marissa Tomei's character)
Pretty Woman-that girl from Just Shoot Me (BFF of Julia Robert's character)
Serendipity-Molly Shannon (BFF of Kate Benkinsale's character)

2) Impromptu singing and/or dancing scene- This one is always good for a good laugh, but SO unrealistic. Either a person or group breaks into song and dance alone, with a small group of people, or a large group of people.

How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days- Kate Hudson's character singing "You're So Lame"
....speaking of Carly Simon....
Little Black Book-Brittany Murphy's character singing ALL Carly Simon songs
My Best Friend's wedding-Julia Roberts singing karaoke
Jennifer Garner (and group)-doing the Thriller dance in 13 Going on 30
...and my favorites....
the choreographed"impromptu" dance scene in She's All That and
same thing in Can't Buy Me Love

3) The Chase- 0-10 minutes before all romantic comedies end there is a chase scene. There was a big misunderstanding, he/she doesn't feel like they are in the same league as the other person, the ex has resurfaced, he/she just accepted another job in another city (away from New York, of course b/c ALL PEOPLE in romantic comedies must live in NEW YORK!!). It looks like it will be over, but----WAIT!! All I have to do is hop on my bike, risk my life weaving in and out of cars on the Brooklyn Bridge, chase down her cab, and we will live happily ever after.

How To Lose a Guy in Ten Days- referenced above
Pretty Woman-Richard Gere climbs up the fire escape
Never Been Kissed- (this is the "unassuming chase" but still has you on the edge of your seat hoping it will all work out)-Drew Barrymore waiting for Michael Vartan on home plate at a baseball game hoping he'll show up for her first kiss

That's all I got folks. Talk to you tomorrow!

Make-up and dogs

I hate typing with "" when writing dialogue, so I'll just bold......sorry for the grammatical no-no!

This morning Landry woke up and came downstairs while I was putting on my make-up in the living room. She sat down beside me on the couch and asked Can I put some on my face? I replied no. She said What is that? I replied make-up. She said BUT WHAT is that? pointing to what I was putting on my face. I said it's called foundation. She said Oh, like the dogs.....

Huh?

I wasn't seeing the similarity so I said How is this like dogs? and she said because it's the called the same- "malmation".

Dalmation. Gotcha.

Gigi's birthday

Today is Gigi's birthday. Happy Birthday, Gigi!! I probably shouldn't say how old she is, but I will say that she is not the age referenced below (see Landry interview).

Although the above picture is a few months old, it's the only picture I could find of Gigi and Landry together. Well, except for the one of them in the pool a few weeks ago. But, I figured I would be in big trouble if I posted that one! In fact, I'll probably have to take this one down. There's a good chance that my mom thinks her credit card numbers, social security number, and checking account information will get stolen from her picture being in cyberspace! ;)

I was telling Landry yesterday that today was going to be Gigi's birthday and we started to discuss Gigi. Here is what she had to say...........

How old do you think Gigi is?

20 and 60 hundred

What do you think Gigi will do on her birthday?

Eat cake at PopPop and Gigi's house

What does Gigi like to wear?

A red shirt

What is your favorite thing to do at Gigi's house?

Read dinosaur book

Where does Gigi live?

At PopPop and Gigi's house

How do you know Gigi loves you?

Because she gives me Teddy Grahams

weekend

We had a good and busy weekend this past weekend. Friday evening we took Landry and her cousins to the new Frisco Gatti Town. They loved it. We got them hopped up on slurpees and other nutritious foods and then let them run around the 40,000 square foot game room until the collapsed.

I asked Landry before we left if she needed to go potty, and of course she said no. I buckled her in her seat, started the car, pulled out of the parking spot when she announced that "pee pee was coming out." Ugh! So, I went to the closest place with a "free" bathroom... Krispy Kreme. We went in and pottied and she HAD to have a donut. We each got one of the WONDERRUL (free) hot ones. Then, we left. Thank you KK for the potty and donut.

Saturday night, some of my college friends came over for dinner. We had a good time and great visit. Things have changed over the past few years......new kids.

We went to PopPop and Gigi's on Sunday and had a great time. Landry swam for a LONG time. She's turned into a quick little motorboat with her floaties on!

Here are a few pics from Saturday night.....

"J" and Landry......I think she has a crush!

This is Landry being embarrassed because she had just kissed "J" on the cheek.

Here are our attempts at getting a kid group picture.........

I don't know why Landry's leg is in the air....she kept doing that. "J #2" looks totally miserable, and "B" (up top) is wondering what his dad is doing.

Trying to get situated......cute pic of J #2.

Landry getting her hair yanked by B.

Finally!! Everyone looking and smiling!
