Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa...and YOU Have Him

In some ways I feel really on top of my "to do" list for this season, and in some ways I feel very behind.

I got my tree up three weeks ago, my Christmas cards have been created, addressed, and are going in the mail tomorrow, and Landry and Korley's Christmas shopping is done (mostly thanks to their grandparents!). It's a little unusual for me to have tackled all of this by December 1.

But, my usual "get things done" time-frame is being cut short by 10 days this year. My mom and I are going to England next week for 10 days to see my sister, Lindsay. I'm SO excited--I know we're going to have a blast, and it's one of those trips that I won't have the opportunity to take again (in this way). But, the Type A part of me is panicked about all the things that need to get done before I leave.

One of the things I made sure to do though while we were in DFW last week was get the girls' picture taken with Santa.

I specifically wanted to go to Stonebriar because I loved the Stonebriar Santa. We've visited him the last four years. He was so jolly and actually spent time talking to the kids (mainly Landry) and would call them by name. (Plus, I have all of the kids' Santa pictures displayed and I really want them to "match".)

So, we drove way out of the way and went to Stonebriar. The kids were giddy with anticipation as we got closer to the front of the line. But, as I got closer, I became more confused and puzzled. Where was MY Santa? This wasn't MY Santa! MY Santa had been replaced!

Apparently, my old Santa was recruited to go to some mall in Virginia this year. Oh, the nerve of you, Virgina! However, I was assured by the photographer that the new Santa was voted the "second best" Santa in the country (oh, sure!) and was imported by Stonebriar from Colorado. (I had no idea that malls bidding on Santas was such a big deal!)

Anyway, here is the 2008 picture of the girls with "second best" Santa. And, a little tribute in pictures from year's past with "number one" Santa. :)

(By the way, second best Santa was just fine. I'm just being a big baby--and I've just ensured myself lumps of coal for the year)

New Santa looks Asian. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Great post title by the way. Very creative you are. Have fun in Euro.

LOL when looking at Korley in the Santa picture; could she have gotten her face any further away from Santa's and still be on his lap? This Santa is ok, but certainly 2d best!!!

NOOOOOOO!!

Courtney, if I still lived there I would have been madder than an ole wet hen!! That Santa was OUR Santa, too.

I am cracking up about all the bidding going on but I'm mostly cracking up at the #2 Santa's hair. What happened to him?

Good luck in jolly ole England! Is that how you say it?

I love that both girls have a similar expression on their faces - did you tell them that this was
2nd best Santa? Great pictures - beautiful girls!

Drink a warm pint for me across the pond. :) Safe travels.

Amen!!! He is so different. Luke is just convinced he has a new hair cut. He says because he does not have elf ears he is real and not a helper...okay!! I miss the old Santa!! We have had our pictures made with him since Luke was 2 months old.

I am in love with the old Santa too, and he is not in Virginia, but in Allen, Texas. He is at the Shops of Allen off Stacy Rd. by the outlet stores. I'm not sure how much this new place is paying him but it better be big money!!! I can't believe he left Stonebriar.

P.S. I read your blog through Beth's.

You will never believe it but 2nd best Santa was on Ellen. She is having a contest to send in the worst Christmas pics and a lady from Lewisville sent one in. I read your post that day and as I was watching I yelled at the the TV, "Hey that is 2nd best Santa!" I guess Pierson will be having his pictures taken with him this year!

Nate says not to complain, he is sure 2nd best Santa is better than any Santa you will find in Lubbock, unless Mike Leach dressed up!

Actually the Santa you wanted was only about 20 minutes away at the new mall in Allen, TX. The company that won the bidding war for Stonebriar mall just didn't want to lose you as a customer. He's under contract for awhile, so if you make it back Texas, I promise you that's where he'll be!
