Later, Gator....

We're off to Florida tomorrow for vacation/Jeff's brother's wedding. This will be our first family vacation as a family of four and Korley's first plane ride. If anyone is planning on being at DFW Airport tomorrow, just look for the family that's weighted down like pack-mules....that's us. Seriously, I hope we use EVERYTHING we're taking on this trip at least once.

Changing the subject--look at first picture at my post below (Tiny Dancer). Look at the dancing couple on the stage set behind Landry. Their legs....ouchey!!

Changing the subject again--I'm not really one of those mom's that compares my children to others' children, but through the blogs I've been reading and my friends I talk to, it seems that Korley is behind on her words. Here are the words she knows right now: bye-bye, bababababababa, eeeeeeeeeeeh, uhhhhhhhh, dadadadadadadada. She "talks" all day long, but doesn't really say anything understandable. I'm not worried about it at all. I know she can hear. She had a pretty extensive hearing test a month ago with her ENT and aced it---it just amazes me how different kids are. However, just because she doesn't talk doesn't mean she can't communicate. She'll pick up a book and "read" it for a couple of minutes, with inflection and everything. And, one of her favorite things to do is to "talk" on the phone--apparently, this is tiring for her because she does the whole "tilt the head to the side and rest the phone on the shoulder" thing. So dramatic, this one!

Hope you guys have fun in Florida. Korley is just trying to let Jake know it is okay not to talk. I think he doesn't talk because we want him to.

I might be a little misleading when I talk about all the words Ellie knows. Because she definitely doesn't prounounce them very clearly and she tends to drop the last sound from the word. Like "nose" is just "no" and the only reason I can differentiate it from "no" is that she points to my nose when she says it. Shoes is mostly a slobbery "s" sound (sssooossss). Yeah, she is definitely not one of those talking geniuses :)
Have fun on your trip!!!

Here's the thing about babies saying words...I feel like a lot of people really exaggerate how many words their kids can say. To me, if the kid doesn't use the word or doesn't know what it means, then it doesn't count. I think a lot of people, especially online, count every single word their kid mimics as a new part of the kid's vocabulary. Like today, I was eating a brownie, and I said brownie and then Lila says "bownie"....but if I now put a "bownie" on the table and asked her what it is she'd probably say "bababababa". Ha!

Hope you have a great time in Florida and that you all get to enjoy the beach. I also hope the weather will cooperate.

Korley's baby babble is such sweet, sweet sounds for such a short, short time! I love hearing her baby talk; she is definitely able to make her point known to those around her! Her babbling makes me laugh out loud; the sounds she was making in the car the other night were priceless! Just as she one day decided to "up and walk across the room," she's going to surprise us with words we will actually understand--all according to her timetable! Sweet, sweet baby!
