In April 1999, shortly after I graduated college, my mom and I went to New Orleans to work the American College of Cardiology convention for Banyan. We worked at the New Orleans Convention Center, stayed across the street at the Holiday Inn, shopped at the RiverWalk Marketplace, and went to Cafe Du Monde for beignets. The whole area was wonderful. It was full of life, energy, and fun.
My memories of that area are a far cry from the current grim reality. Seeing what is going on there now is unbelievable. I can hardly describe how devastating it was to see dead people propped up against the wall. Children, elderly, sick barely clinging to life. People going into diabetic shock and there is nothing to do for them. It breaks my heart to see these babies with NO FOOD OR WATER. I heard a report last night that two babies had died due to dehydration. It's just devastating and unnecessary. Where is the help?
Hopefully, the Saints will march in soon.
