Must HATE "Must Love Dogs"

Used to.....I would see almost every new movie that came out. Never really liked scary movies, war movies, serious dramas, or anything by Tim Burton or Quentin Tarrantino (too weird) so I would skip these. This pretty much leaves action, comedies, romantic movies, and romantic comedies. I would see them all.

Now......it is very rare that I go see movies. Before last Thursday night, the last two movies I saw in the last 8 months were "Madagascar" and "Be Cool" (terrible). Thursday, I was excited to get to go see a movie; I chose "Must Love Dogs". Waste of $$. But, in case you want to see it, I will keep it out of my below examples.

I have decided that EVERY ROMANTIC COMEDY IS THE SAME!!! I'm done with them. They are too predictable and I don't want to spend $8.50 to predict every scene.

They all have one or more of the following:

1) A BFF- All romantic comedies have a "best friend" character that has NOTHING else to live for than to help find his/her friend's soul mate. The BFF is ALWAYS uglier than the main character, but funnier. They get all of the good jokes and lines. Think of any romantic comedy out there......there is a BFF. (note: the BFF can also be a family member)

Jerry Maguire- Bonnie Hunt (sister of Renee Zellwegger's character)
......speaking of Bonnie Hunt....Only You (sister of Marissa Tomei's character)
Pretty Woman-that girl from Just Shoot Me (BFF of Julia Robert's character)
Serendipity-Molly Shannon (BFF of Kate Benkinsale's character)

2) Impromptu singing and/or dancing scene- This one is always good for a good laugh, but SO unrealistic. Either a person or group breaks into song and dance alone, with a small group of people, or a large group of people.

How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days- Kate Hudson's character singing "You're So Lame"
....speaking of Carly Simon....
Little Black Book-Brittany Murphy's character singing ALL Carly Simon songs
My Best Friend's wedding-Julia Roberts singing karaoke
Jennifer Garner (and group)-doing the Thriller dance in 13 Going on 30
...and my favorites....
the choreographed"impromptu" dance scene in She's All That and
same thing in Can't Buy Me Love

3) The Chase- 0-10 minutes before all romantic comedies end there is a chase scene. There was a big misunderstanding, he/she doesn't feel like they are in the same league as the other person, the ex has resurfaced, he/she just accepted another job in another city (away from New York, of course b/c ALL PEOPLE in romantic comedies must live in NEW YORK!!). It looks like it will be over, but----WAIT!! All I have to do is hop on my bike, risk my life weaving in and out of cars on the Brooklyn Bridge, chase down her cab, and we will live happily ever after.

How To Lose a Guy in Ten Days- referenced above
Pretty Woman-Richard Gere climbs up the fire escape
Never Been Kissed- (this is the "unassuming chase" but still has you on the edge of your seat hoping it will all work out)-Drew Barrymore waiting for Michael Vartan on home plate at a baseball game hoping he'll show up for her first kiss

That's all I got folks. Talk to you tomorrow!
