Make-up and dogs

I hate typing with "" when writing dialogue, so I'll just bold......sorry for the grammatical no-no!

This morning Landry woke up and came downstairs while I was putting on my make-up in the living room. She sat down beside me on the couch and asked Can I put some on my face? I replied no. She said What is that? I replied make-up. She said BUT WHAT is that? pointing to what I was putting on my face. I said it's called foundation. She said Oh, like the dogs.....

Huh?

I wasn't seeing the similarity so I said How is this like dogs? and she said because it's the called the same- "malmation".
