Fired Up. Fired Up. Fired up, and up, and up, and up, and up!

My husband is so good. He is a great father and husband. He works hard at his job. He's very funny, kind, patient.

However......

He's driving me bonkers this week. Tomorrow is Texas Tech's first Big 12 game of the season. We play Texas A&M....in College Station.

Depending on who you ask, this is a big game. For us Red Raiders, it is. It has been (at least for me) since 1995 when we unexpectedly defeated A&M my sophomore year with Zach Thomas's interception touchdown. For the Aggies, it's not.....say the literally thousands upon thousands who have posted on texags.com.

Jeff has been on above mentioned Aggie internet forum all week reading posts, and everyday he has come home boiling about comments that the Aggies have made (on their own forum-what a shock!) about Tech. Of course, my advice is "If it makes you mad, don't read it!!" But, he can't stop. For some reason he's drawn in like a moth to flames. For some reason he is getting some sort of satisfaction at making his blood pressure skyrocket.

Which has got me thinking about college football....

First, I'll say this. I LOVE college football. It's my favorite sport to watch; both live and on TV. I love the atmospehere of games; the actual playing, the crowd, the cheering, the band, and yes....I even like the wave.

And, I love Texas Tech football. Jeff and I went to school there and it's where I had the best four (and a half) years of my life. IMHO, there is nothing better than game day on campus. I love Tech football and will always root for Tech.

BUT, just because I root for Tech and went to school there doesn't make this "MY" team. Just how is "your" team really "your" team? Even though I (ok, my parents) spent thousands and thousands of dollars on my education, the school has never acknowledged that this is "my" team. No one has ever attributed Tech winning football games to my 1) rooting, 2) hating fans of other schools, 3) talking smack. So, it always baffles me when Jeff's blood starts boiling when fans of other schools start talking smack about Tech. "Their" team isn't really "their" team anyway.

A couple of years ago I went with my dad and brother to the OU/UT game. OU won and afterwards this kid who was probably 13 and was a UT fan shouted to me, "well, at least we're going to beat you this year in basketball." Really??.....because I didn't know I had signed up with my dad and brother to play basketball against a 13-year-old.

So tomorrow, we will be wearing our Tech t-shirts, watching the game with friends (Tech friends only!), waving our Double T garden flag in front of our house, I will be holding the paper bag that Jeff will be breathing in to, and we will be rooting for OUR team. And, hopefully, maybe sometime in January we can start talking to our non-Raider friends again! :)

I was happy that Tech won. I am not a Red Raider fan necessarily, I just greatly dislike the Aggies!

I can root for Tech when they aren't playing Baylor and Alabama!
