Making (a) Room for Baby

We are only six days from meeting the newest addition to the family!  And, we finally have a room for him to occupy once he is here!

This room took a few left turns along the way.  If you look at my "boy" pinterest board (here), my pins were pretty much all over the map.  I had an idea of what I wanted to do, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money.

I bought some bedding a few months ago that was inexpensive and I really liked from Target.  (this)  After it sat in the corner of the room for a couple of months, I was getting to the point where I was needing to start finding accessories for the room that coordinated with the bedding.

Then, I ran across this nursery that Sabrina Soto did for her sister, and I LOVED the Marimekko fabric print and had to have it.  I ordered it and loved it even more in person, but unfortunately, it didn't look very good with the bedding I already bought.

Fortunately, though, it did look good with the other Dwell Studio for Target bedding (which was used in Sabrina's sister's nursery) and was on major clearance.

So, out with the old bedding--in with the new bedding.

One of the reasons I really liked the fabric is because I wanted something to hang over the crib that was a focal point and interesting, but not heavy or dangerous.  I'm always baffled when I see these great nurseries, but they've hung something heavy or impractical over the crib.  I mean, you only have a few short months before the baby can pull up and start pulling things on the wall.  All I did with this fabric was stretch it over a (huge) piece of foamboard.  Then, I used many pieces of Command strips to adhere it to the wall.

I LOVE Eric Carle's books and I found some Eric Carle flashcards and used four of them to frame in inexpensive Ikea frames to hang over the dresser.

The Ikea Poang chair is a new addition.  We didn't have a lot of room for a chair/rocker, but I wanted one anyway.  This one fits in the room and is actually very comfortable!

Hopefully, people will still want to come visit us on occasion--so, we had to double the nursery as a guest room.  We moved Korley's daybed/trundle in here for when we have guests (lucky guests....daybed/trundle just screams luxury!!).

Landry and Korley provided the artwork on the big empty wall above the daybed, which I think might be my favorite thing in the room.  I know I'm biased, but they are my favorite artists!  :)  And, they are proud to have been able to contribute something that's displayed in their baby brother's room.  I had their drawings enlarged to 11x14s and framed them in Ikea 19x19 frames.

On the small wall between the bathroom door and closet door, I added two frame ledges at "kid height" to be used as bookshelves, as well as a cheap DIY letter project I did.  I know the scale looks a little off at this point (and it is), but I wanted to leave some wall space in that area for photos, etc for when he is actually here!

That's about it!  Only thing left to do is just add baby!  :)

Speaking from personal experience, the trundle is close enough to "luxury." Callan is lucky to have such a cute room to call his own. Great job, Courtney!
