Havin' a Field Day

Last Friday was Landry's first school Field Day.

Things have changed. Back in my day, we had "Bobcat Olympics"; similar to Field Day, but way more competitive. Sure, we had the usual potato sack races, egg-in-the-spoon races, and water balloon tosses, but we also had some pretty serious track and field events. And, we competed against the other classes in our grade. AND, we got ribbons for placing. I remember secretly always wanting Jerry What's His Name in my class every year, because I knew come Bobcat Olympics time he was certain to win any event that involved running fast or far and he would bring home a blue ribbon for our class. It was important, people, trust me.

Now..... it's all about fun. Score keeping, winning, and losing are a thing of yesteryear. Every body participates in everything and everyone is blue ribbon worthy. However, that didn't stop Landry from blistering up her hands in tug-of-war, beating herself up over dropping the egg (golf ball) in the egg (golf ball)-in-the-spoon race, and dragging her fallen three-legged race friends across the finish line.

Anyway, here are some pictures from the completely non-competitive, just for fun Field Day! :)
Determination!
Look how tall she is! HA!

This was before the egg race meltdown....

I think it's great that they have taken the ultra-competitiveness out of these types of events. Those kinds of things always made me nervous b/c I wasn't very athletic. I didn't want to disappoint my classmates by not doing well. This way, everyone has fun.

It makes me happy that you are so good at capturing all these "firsts" for all of us to enjoy; love keeping up with the girls through your posts! Great job! Way to go Landry!

I hadn't thought of the "Bobcat Olympics" in years! I totally know who you are talking about when you say Jerry What's-His-Name. And I don't remember his name, either!!! LOL!!!
